Cheers (Beer Mug-updated pattern)

 

It may be a wee bit early for St. Paddy's Day, but it is never too early for green beer!

I have edited and updated my Cheers pattern and I also posted it on http://www.craftsy.com under jodcold.  Check it out! This is still a free pattern. Please feel free to create it and give as gifts or sell at local craft fairs. Do not sell my pattern or the hats online.

Fits approximate 20½-22” head circumference (Adult size)
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS - approximate
20” un-stretched circumference (not including handle), 8½” in length
Foam (white) 3 ½” in length, Beer (gold or green) 5” in length, 1 row of gray
SKILL LEVEL: easy
Supplies:
Red Heart Buttercup white yarn for the foam
Red Heart Supersaver gold or green yarn (4 ply 100% acrylic) for the beer
Red Heart Supersaver gray yarn (4 ply 100% acrylic) for the glass and handle H/8-5.00 mm hook or size needed to obtain correct gauge
Tapestry needle
GAUGE: 6 rounds = 4”
Pattern is written using standard US stitches.
Abbreviations:
ch = chain
sc = single crochet
hdc = half double crochet
magic circle/adjustable ring
* = repeat directions between * and * as many as indicated
( ) = number of stitches in each round
Instructions:
Do not join rounds. Mark the beginning of each round. Hat: White yarn 1. Magic circle, (ch 2 then work 8 sc into ring). Tighten. 2. 2 hdc in each sc around. (16) 3. *hdc in next hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc; repeat from * 7 more times (24) 4. *hdc in next 2hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc; repeat from * 7 more times (32) 5. *hdc in next 3 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc; repeat from * 7 more times (40) 6. *hdc in next 4 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc; repeat from * 7 more times (48) 7. *hdc in next 5 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc; repeat from * 7 more times (56)
Switch to gold (or green) yarn 8. *hdc in next 6 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc; repeat from * 7 more times (64) Rounds 9-20 hdc in each hdc around (be sure to mark rounds) (64)
Switch to gray yarn 21. sc in each hdc around, sl st to join gray. Cut yarn and weave in ends.
Foam down the side of hat: Use white. Sew a few rows back and forth (this yarn is very forgiving as it is so fluffy-just cover up the gold). I do this in the spot where the white is first connected to the gold/green. If you prefer you could crochet it (instead of sewing) on to the foam from the front of the hat (whichever is easiest for you).
Handle: Gray yarn.
Ch 24, turn, sc in each ch. Ch 2, hdc in each sc; repeat this 2 more times for a total of 3 hdc rows. Cut yarn, leaving a long tail for sewing the handle.
Fold the handle lengthwise and sew together. Sew it to side of hat as shown in photo.
NOTES: The white yarn is so fluffy that it is difficult to see the stitches (I had to tear it out and start over). This pattern is forgiving enough that if that white isn't exact it won't be a problem.
The shamrock is not my pattern and is not attached to the hat; I just used it to make the hat look festive. You can do an online search for crocheted shamrock if you want to make one.
